The review paper investigates the effects of crises on the hospitality and tourist industries, with a special emphasis on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This study examines 44 research articles published between 1992 and the present to identify major patterns and conclusions on how various crises, such as terrorism, natural disasters, economic downturns, and pandemics, have influenced tourist businesses. The analysis points out that the bulk of these research were completed during the previous decade, indicating an increasing academic interest in this field. The investigation highlights similar features, such as SMEs' resilience and flexibility. By combining these findings, this study provides an in-depth examination of the available literature and recommends future research topics to better serve the hotel and tourist industries during crises.
