ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN SUPPORT AND CITIZENSHIP: EVIDENCE FROM HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN PAKISTAN

Abstract

Background: This research aims to investigate the relationship of perceived organizational support with organizational citizenship behavior, the mediating effect of organizational commitment between perceived organizational support and organizational citizenship behaviour, among the teaching faculty of higher educational institutions of Punjab, Pakistan. Methods: This survey based study was conducted in selected higher educational institutions of Punjab, Pakistan. The data was collected from 293 respondents who completed the questionnaire used for analysis by using SPSS 25 and (SEM AMOS) software. Results: The results of the research revealed a significantly positive relationship of organizational citizenship behaviour with both perceived organizational support and organizational commitment. Furthermore a mediating relationship or organizational commitment has been proven significant between the relationship of perceived organizational support and organizational citizenship behaviour. Contribution: This study is one of the few studies conducted in this field and will help the management and policy makers of higher educational institutions in Punjab, Pakistan, to transform and encourage organizational support to enhance discretionary work behaviour (OCB) among faculty members to enhance organization performance.
